POA unveils plans for Olympic torch relay in Pakistan

Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and a sponsor Coca-Cola Company on Monday unveiled plans for the reception of the Olympic Torch in Pakistan on April 16.

Addressing a news conference here, POA president Syed Arif Hasan said that he believed the Beijing Olympic Games would become the best in history.

"The arrival of Olympic Torch is a huge honor for the country and Pakistan Olympic Association along with Coca-Cola and other sponsors will make all-out efforts to make this event a great success," Arif Hasan said.

Country manager of the Coca-Cola Export Corporation Pakistan Rizwan U. Khan announced six Olympic torch bearers who were prominent individuals in their respective fields and had greatly contributed towards uplift of the society.

The six torch bearers include Syed Babar Ali, Chairman of Coca-Cola Beverages Pakistan Ltd., Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Founder Member of Pani Pakistan, Jahangir Khan, former world squash champion and currently President of World Squash Federation, Hassan Sardar, renowned former national hockey player and 1984 Olympics gold-medallist, Ali Hassan Habib, President of Word Wide Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan) and Seema Aziz Chairperson of CARE, a non-governmental organization.

Rizwan U. Khan said that the company would inspire people, especially the youth of Pakistan to have the courage to aim and achieve higher than before by sponsoring the Olympic Games.

Arif Hasan told Xinhua that the Beijing Olympic Games would be a good channel for the Pakistani people to get to know more about China. The Beijing Olympic Games would be a great success, he added.
